Meet & assist at the airport by our representative. Transfer to the hotel. Check in. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 : BEIRUT – BAALBECK – BEIRUT (VISIT DOWNTOWN & PIGEON ROCK)

Day 2 includes the following Lebanon Tours administered by Wild Discovery

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the Beqaa Valley. Visit Baalbeck, Lebanon’s greatest Roman treasure, can be counted among the wonders of the ancient world. The largest and most noble Roman temples ever built, they are also among the best preserved. Towering high above the Beqaa plain, their monumental proportions proclaimed the power and wealth of Imperial Rome. The gods worshipped here, the Triad of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, were grafted onto the indigenous deities of Hadad, Atargatis and a young male god of fertility. Lunch in a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, return to Beirut. Orientation tour of the capital Beirut, home of the first law school in the world, dating back to the Phoenician Era. Have a photo stop at Pigeon Rock and take the Corniche to reach the Downtown. The trendy Solidere area of downtown Beirut has been beautifully restored. Solidere is also home to several Roman ruins sites that have been uncovered and preserved, several notable mosques and churches, and the National Parliament Building. The ruins of the extensive Roman Bath complex are located just west of the Solidere (Beirut Central District) region, below the Grand Serail. Have a walk around “La Place de l’Etoile” and Clock Tower.
Return to the hotel in Beirut. Overnight.

    Day 3 : BEIRUT – SIDON – BEITEDDINE – DEIR EL QAMAR – BEIRUT

Day 3 includes the following Lebanon Tours administered by Wild Discovery

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the capital of the South to visit Sidon (Saida), said to mean “fishing”. Sidon was the third great Phoenician city-state, rivaling Byblos and Tyre as a naval power. The town was conquered by the Crusaders after a famous siege lasting 47 days, and then retaken by Saladin 70 years later.
The city’s northern harbor is graced by Castle of the Sea, erected in the early 13th Century by the crusading Knights of St. John of the Hospital of Jerusalem on an islet at the mouth of the harbor. In the old town more recent buildings worth a visit are Khan as-Sabun, Khan el-Franj and the Great Mosque above the Egyptian Harbor which still retains the 13th Century walls of the fortress Church of the Hospitallers.
Proceed to the Chouf Region. Lunch in Beiteddine. In the afternoon, visit the Beiteddine Palace (meaning “house of faith”). Beiteddine is a palace built at the beginning of the 19th century, by Emir Bechir Chehab II, on a rocky spur dominating a steep, precipitous valley. A perfect example of classic Lebanese architecture of the time, it has decorated ceilings, colorful marble mosaic floors, luxurious Turkish Baths and harem suites, in a setting of beautifully groomed gardens, a guest house in which the French Poet “Lamartine” once dwelt, water jets and colonnades. The palace remained the emir’s residence until his forced exile in 1840, when the Ottomans used it as the government residence. It was declared a historic monument in 1934, and then began a restoration process. Since 1943, it has been the summer home of the president. A folkloric museum occupies one wing and in the palace’s renovated stables is an exquisite display of mosaics from a ruined Byzantine church and other structures of the same period. On the way back, stop at Deir el Qamar, famous for its palaces which display the ancient Lebanese style in architecture. Return to Beirut.
    Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 4 : BEIRUT – BYBLOS – BEIRUT (DEPARTURE)

Day 4 includes the following Lebanon Tours administered by Wild Discovery

Breakfast at the hotel. Check out. Departure to visit Byblos, the oldest continuously inhabited town built upon multiple layers of ruins. Modern scholars believe the site of Byblos dates back at least 7,000 years (5,000-4,000 BC). The city’s current name is taken from the Greek word for “papyrus” (paper). Byblos was not only a major trading center and producer of papyrus, but is also famous for being the city where Phoenician scholars created the world’s first alphabet. The small, harbor was once a thriving commercial center, where Lebanon’s cedar wood was shipped throughout the region in ancient times.
Byblos has extensive archaeological ruins which have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The ruins range from Stone Age huts to a Roman theater to a Persian fortress and an impressive Crusader castle & the Roman amphitheater. Visit St John the Baptist church and explore the old souqs (markets) & the medieval ramparts.
Transfer to the airport for departure.

5 Must See Places in Lebanon

5 Must See Places in Lebanon

As with any overseas journey, every traveller should make sure they have the best travel insurance package in place before they arrive. When it comes to travelling in Lebanon, the same rule applies and you should ensure you have the best cover you can afford for medical and hospital treatment expenses. That is not to say that Lebanon on is more dangerous than any other destination, but when visiting any country which has experienced the unrest that we have all witnessed in Lebanon on, it is just a matter of simple common sense.

Despite the problems that Lebanon has experienced over the last decade or so, things have really settle down over the last few years and now, politically, the country is in a relatively stable position and is once again on the radar of tourists looking for something different. Beirut once held the enviable reputation of being the Paris of the East, and although this is no longer the case it is keen to once again attain its proud mantle as the most desirable destination in the Middle East.

Although care still needs to be exercised when visiting this part of the world, there are plenty of things to include on your itinerary. Let’s take a look at five must see destinations in Lebanon on.

Beirut. Beirut is a heady mixture of modern sophistication and the dreadfully poor and disaffected. This is a city that truly represents the paradoxical elements that are close to the heart of every Lebanese; that of tolerance of every disparate element of society even in the face of regular violence; and the underlying belief that everything will be OK in the end. From a practical point of view you will really enjoy the restaurants and cafes that seem to occupy a part of every street, and the same goes for the nightlife where nightclubs, cinemas and theatres are prevalent. The history of Beirut extends back as far as 7000 years so it is not surprising to know that there are plenty of archaeological digs to visit.
Tyre. The origins of this city date back to approximately 2750 BC. The ancient markets are a magnet for tourists as are the historical ruins of previous Roman settlements. There is even archaeological evidence of the one-time Egyptian rulers who benefited from the cedar timber which acquired biblical significance.
The Bekka Valley. This is one of the more fertile regions of Lebanon on but is also home to many magnificent archaeological sites particularly at Baalbek and Aanjar. The major town of the region is Zahle, a great place to visit in summer with a cool climate and a happy atmosphere created by its cheerful inhabitants. It’s great to get into the Lebanese lifestyle when visiting towns such as Zahle, and you will get a greater appreciation of the true nature of everyday life in Lebanon.

There are plenty of things to do and see in Lebanon, and you can certainly plan a safe holiday here despite its recent reputation. As mentioned previously, make sure you have adequatetravel insurance cover to take care of any unforeseen problems.
